What is, i mean, who is security guard anyway?According to the defination on the web by Wikipedia:
“A Security Guard or Security Officer is usually a privately and formally employed person who is paid to protect property, and/or assets, and/or people. Often, security officers are uniformed and act to protect property by maintaining a high visibility presence to deter illegal and/or inappropriate actions, observing (either directly, through patrols, or by watching alarm systems or video cameras) for signs of crime, fire or disorder; then taking action and/or reporting any incidents to their client, employer and emergency services as appropriate.”
But I seldom see any security guard performing such job functions, especially those in the bank. May be we need more customer service?
Why? Simple. Don’t you see now the security guard has a new challenge, or better say, paradigm shift? Their scope of job includes giving away of visitor que numbers now. Yes, they know what counter doing what, according to your needs. They have to know anyway. I went to the citibank today. The security guards were standing besides the que numbering machine, distributing the numbers. Hey, their service was so good that they even picked up the number sheets and rubbish on the carpet floor. Good service huh? I even saw this happened in Celcom center and HSBC bank too. It’s too normal to be strange.
Security guard, where have all your ‘guts’ gone? Since when you guys have ‘extra’ services like this?

erm…
why saying :
“The security guards were standing besides the que numbering machine, distributing the numbers……… they even picked up the number sheets and rubbish on the carpet floor.”
means “Lost of Guts”
I dont quite understand.
Security nowadays is managed by a seperate company as a service provider. Of cause they have their own Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and definate job scope. The Security company has a range of security facilities as package that can installed to the premises on request and purchase.
It is depends on the owner of the premise whether or not to buy such facilities.
For a bigger co-operation, definately such system is in placed. They need a stricter system.
They have a control room with set-up of monitoring system of every single corner. Some designated security officers were posted there for monitoring (they are not visible to us)
1 or 2 standby security officer, usually are on the move, either posted at the entrances or the lobby to observe.
Don’t you think if the security officer who are also help up in guarding the Q is a value added service?
Walking into the crowd in fact is more effective in detecting crime and even has the effect on warning the crime makers.
As long as they or not chit chatting, smiggle around…they are not a non-performer.
Guarding the Q is not something simple to some people. It needs loads of GUTS!

Haha… The que numbering machine that I mean is provided by the bank for the customers actually, nothing to do with the facilities provided by the security firm. I am surprised to see the extra customer service they gave. If there is a que numbering system, they is no point for the guards to guard the que as there is no que!
May be you are right. We should appreciate their value added service. Sorry brother!
